Banks in Slovakia Earned SKK 16.41 Bln in Nine Months
03.11.2008 (00:00)Slovakia’s banking sector closed the first nine months of this year with a taxed profit of SKK 16.41 billion (EUR 544.7 million), up 19.3 percent y/y, according to data of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS).
Slovenska Sporitelna (SLSP) posted the biggest taxed profit of SKK 4.34 billion (EUR 144.1 million). Compared with the same period of last year, the bank’s profit icnreased SKK 1.085 billion (EUR 36.02 million). VUB Banka had the second biggest profit of SKK 3.489 billion (EUR 115.8 million) on an SKK 482 million (EUR 16 million) y/y increase. Tatra Banka closed the first nine months with taxed profit at SKK 2.806 billion (SKK 93.14 million), up SKK 49 million (EUR 1.627 million).
Net interest income was SKK 34.441 billion (EUR 1.143 billion) on a 19.8 percent y/y growth. Net income from fees and commissions went up 12.4 percent y/y to SKK 10.129 billion (EUR 336.2 million). The banks’ balance-sheet total amounted to SKK 1,763 billion (EUR 58.52 billion) at the end of the ninth month. Claims against clients made up SKK 895.139 billion (EUR 29.71 billion). Liabilities toward clients reached SKK 986.681 billion (EUR 32.75 billion).
Seventeen commercial banks and eight branches of foreign banks were operating actively on the Slovak banking market at the end of this August.
